5. Plugins and tools

YouTube with enhanced privacy mode

Some pages of this website embed videos hosted on YouTube. The provider is Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland.

Simply opening such a page does not establish any connection to YouTube. All you see at first is a preview image served from my own server; no data is transmitted to Google and no YouTube cookies are set at that point.

Only when you click the preview image and thereby start the video is the YouTube player loaded and a connection to YouTube's servers established. YouTube is then informed which of my pages you have visited, and your IP address is transmitted. If you are logged into your YouTube account at that moment, YouTube can associate your browsing behavior directly with your personal profile; you can prevent this by logging out of your YouTube account before playing the video. Once the video has started, YouTube may also store cookies on your device or use comparable recognition technologies (e.g. device fingerprinting) in order to collect video statistics, improve usability, and prevent fraud.

The videos are embedded in enhanced privacy mode, i.e. via the domain youtube-nocookie.com. According to YouTube, no information about visitors to the website is stored in this mode before a video is played.

The legal basis for the processing is your consent, which you give by clicking the preview image (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). Since consent is given per video by that click and is not stored, you can withdraw it at any time with effect for the future by not starting any further videos. Google bases the associated transfer of data to the USA on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
